Spotify has officially launched its review for 2024, revealing the most popular artists, songs, and albums from the past year.
However, on Wednesday, the platform faced significant technical difficulties, impacting the ability of thousands of users to access its services. According to a spokesperson for Spotify, the outage started around 6:20 AM EDT and was resolved by 11:45 AM EDT. “Spotify experienced an outage today beginning around 6:20am EDT,” the representative communicated via email to CBS MoneyWatch. Users can refer to the company’s @SpotifyStatus channel on X for real-time updates.
Data from Downdetector.com indicated that over 48,000 users reported issues with the platform, predominantly affecting the app and streaming services in both the U.S. and parts of Europe, as noted by the BBC.
Prior to the resolution of these problems, Spotify acknowledged the inconvenience on social media, reassuring users that they were actively addressing the situation. A spokesperson clarified that the problems were not related to a cybersecurity incident, quelling fears of potential hacking. By midday, the company communicated through their status account that the issues had been rectified, stating, “All clear – thanks for your patience,” on X.
As users awaited the restoration of services, many took to social media to express their frustrations. Posts ranged from complaints of not being able to stream music entirely to experiencing various glitches while playing songs. “Messing with my morning man!!” lamented one user. These reactions underscore the dependency many have on the platform for their daily routines.
Since its inception in 2008, Spotify has grown to support over 675 million users, demonstrating the significant role it plays in music consumption worldwide.
