Tottenham Hotspur appears poised to secure the signing of Lens center-back Kevin Danso. The 26-year-old defender has garnered significant interest during the January transfer window and was reportedly on the verge of joining Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Given the recent injury to defender Radu Dragusin, Tottenham has acted swiftly to bring Danso into their ranks, with a deal expected to be valued at €25 million (approximately £20.9 million).
Danso’s football journey began at MK Dons, before he moved to Augsburg as a young talent. Though his loan stint at Southampton during the 2019-20 season did not meet expectations, he has since emerged as an international player for Austria, showcasing his skills effectively at Lens.
With 128 appearances for the Ligue 1 side under his belt, Danso is anticipated to enhance Ange Postecoglou’s squad, providing crucial support in the wake of recent injuries and aiming for a successful return to the Premier League.
In a separate development, Borussia Dortmund is in discussions with Chelsea regarding a loan deal for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka. Currently outside of Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea, Chukwuemeka is eager to seek a new opportunity.
Dortmund has been a long-time admirer of Chukwuemeka, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 for £20 million. The Bundesliga club is pushing to finalize an arrangement that would see the 21-year-old move to Germany for the remainder of the season.
While it remains uncertain if Dortmund will include an option or obligation to buy in the agreement, Juventus and Porto have also expressed interest in Chukwuemeka this month, alongside inquiries from Everton and West Ham.
A product of Aston Villa’s academy, Chukwuemeka is keen to revitalize his career after a challenging year and a half. He was showing promise under Mauricio Pochettino last season until a knee injury disrupted his progress, and he has since been sidelined under Maresca’s management. This season, he has made one start and four substitute appearances but has yet to feature in a Premier League match.
As the January transfer window draws to a close on Monday night, Chelsea is reportedly considering offloading several players, with Ben Chilwell attracting tentative interest from Crystal Palace. Tottenham may also compete with Aston Villa for Axel Disasi, and João Félix’s future remains uncertain.
On a positive note for Dortmund, the club secured a much-needed victory in the Bundesliga on Saturday, marking their first win since December 22, with a 2-1 result against Heidenheim.
