ST. LOUIS – A tragic incident unfolded in north St. Louis today with the discovery of two deceased individuals.
“Oh no — not right here at home. You expect it everywhere else, but when it happens at home, it really touches your heart,” stated Apostle Ariette Jefferson Murray, expressing the community’s collective grief.
Local leaders are reeling in response to the deaths of a man and a woman found just blocks from each other.
According to St. Louis city police, the situation began shortly before 7 a.m. on East Grand Boulevard, where officers responded to the scene and discovered the woman’s body.
“At approximately 6:45 a.m., St. Louis 911 received a call concerning a woman who might have been attacked in the 2100 block of East Grand. An officer arrived in the area but was unable to find anyone or any witnesses. Officers continued to search, but nothing appeared amiss,” said Mitch McCoy, Director of Public Affairs and Information for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Soon after, less than a mile away, another body—an adult male—was located.
While officers were investigating the first scene, they stumbled upon the second victim in an alley near 20th and Obear.
Authorities promptly cordoned off both locations to gather evidence. No confirmation has been made about any link between the two fatalities or the circumstances surrounding them, with both investigations still being pursued actively.
Community representatives stress that regardless of any potential connection, the loss of two lives is too much, urging an end to the violence.
“It makes you tired. We have prayer gatherings, and we strive to uplift the community, yet to find out that such tragedies occur right here is heartbreaking,” Murray expressed. “We have many churches in the area. We need to take to the streets and send a message: no more, it’s enough.”
