Stephen Colbert Takes Aim at Elon Musk

In a recent episode of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert delivered a pointed monologue targeting Elon Musk, humorously noting that “millions of young people” harbor a dislike for the tech magnate — “and those are just his kids.” His jests quickly escalated as he referenced a Republican congressman who had written a cringe-worthy poem in Musk’s honor, suggesting a rewritten version that more accurately captured the essence of the billionaire.

Colbert’s commentary highlighted the significant disruption Musk is causing within the U.S. government, remarking, “Turns out randomly firing a lot of Americans isn’t that popular with a lot of Americans.” He referenced a recent poll revealing that 58% of respondents oppose mass layoffs of government employees. Additionally, he pointed to another survey showing that 71% of Americans aged 18 to 34 disapprove of Dogecoin’s association with Musk. Colbert quipped, “Yes, millions of young people cannot stand Elon Musk, and those are just his kids.”

Continuing on this theme, Colbert noted that growing discontent is leading to heightened attendance at Republican town halls, where constituents are adamantly pushing their representatives to take action against Musk’s influence. This discussion looped back to the aforementioned poem written by Congressman Randy Weber of Texas, which Colbert described as an embarrassing display of sycophancy.

“Congressional Republicans called Musk to Capitol Hill, where they took a firm stance against this unelected oligarch, and gently questioned him. Yes, the GOP is using that classic strategy, ‘Good cop, nicer cop,’” Colbert joked, mocking the lack of real confrontation.

The host drew attention to Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville’s comments during this meeting, where he remarked, “I don’t want to get in their way. They know what they’re doing a hell of a lot more than I do.” Colbert quipped in response, “For once, I agree with you, sir. I think pretty much everyone knows more than Tuberville.”

Colbert then pivoted back to the poem, stating, “the Republicans who met with Musk kissed his butt so hard, poetry came out,” referring to Weber’s embarrassing attempt at homage. Colbert proceeded to recite the poem aloud, which began with: “Elon works from dawn to dust, then it dawns on all of us. He’s figured out what’s crazy wrong. We should have known it all along.”

With his typical comedic flair, Colbert critiqued the poem, saying, “First off, dude, he used the word ‘dusk’ and didn’t think to rhyme it with ‘Musk’?” He then theatrically declared that he would compose his own version, sharing an invented continuation that lampooned Musk’s personal life and public persona:

“With 14 kids, the head of DOGE, has clearly never worn a Troj. His claim to fame’s high tech machines, his only friends are fascist teens. With skin the tone of day old sushi, he’s super dumb and uber-douchey. While Trump sits drinking diet cola, DOGE cuts could give us all Ebola. Like Iron Man without a heart, less Tony Stark, more Tony Shart.”

The audience erupted in laughter as Colbert delivered his lines with characteristic wit and timing, underscoring the growing public scrutiny and skepticism surrounding Musk’s expansive influence over the tech and political landscape.
