Television Highlights for the Week
The Voice
This week marks a significant moment for the singing competition, as renowned artists Sting and Jennifer Hudson join the program as “mega mentors.” Sting, in his debut on The Voice, will lend his expertise to the teams led by Michael Bublé and Reba McEntire. Meanwhile, Hudson, returning after her previous stints as a coach in seasons 13 and 15, will provide guidance to Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani’s respective contestants. The mentoring comes just in time for the crucial Knockouts round, where pairs of teammates face off by performing their chosen songs, while coaches make pivotal decisions on who progresses to the Playoffs. Each coach has the ability to save one contestant and steal another, intensifying the competition.
What We Do in the Shadows
In a standout episode of the final season of this supernatural comedy, British comedian Steve Coogan makes a memorable appearance as Lord Roderick Cravensworth, the ghostly father of Laszlo, played by Matt Berry. Roderick’s arrival stirs up old grievances for Laszlo, who becomes frustrated as his fellow housemates fall under the ghost’s charm. This includes Roderick’s amusing faux admiration for Colin Robinson’s collection of Funko figurines. Amidst this comedic chaos, Nandor and Nadja suspect their new neighbors might be shape-shifters, leading to a humorous investigation, though Guillermo offers a different perspective on the ghostly happenings.
Poppa’s House
Wendy Raquel Robinson debuts in this sitcom as Catherine, the strong-willed ex-wife of Poppa, portrayed by Damon Wayans. Her arrival brings tension as she teams up with the conservative JJ, played by Geoffrey Owens, to challenge Poppa’s decision concerning their grandson’s education. Poppa advocates for the child to remain in public school, setting the stage for a comedic clash of ideals.
Superman & Lois
In the latest episode, the residents of Smallville are beginning to connect the dots about Clark Kent’s dual identity as Superman. This growing suspicion complicates matters for his sons, Jonathan and Jordan, who inadvertently make it more difficult for their father to maintain his secret. Meanwhile, Lois grapples with the future of The Gazette as the series approaches its conclusion, adding another layer of tension to the already complicated family dynamics.
NCIS: Origins
Rookie agent Gibbs, portrayed by Austin Stowell, embarks on his first undercover mission alongside Lala. The assignment revolves around the mysterious death of a Navy serviceman suspected of leaking sensitive information. As Gibbs navigates his debut experience, Lala faces personal dilemmas that prompt her to reevaluate her role within the NIS unit, creating a compelling subplot in this law enforcement drama.
