NEW YORK – A woman accused of boarding a Delta Air Lines flight without a ticket from New York City to Paris last week is returning to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Wednesday.
Identified as Svetlana Dali by sources familiar with the case, the 57-year-old was flying back to New York from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. She is currently being escorted by French law enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.
Dali is anticipated to face arrest upon her arrival on charges related to trespassing and theft of services, according to CBS News sources. However, there are no indications at this moment that she will face any federal charges.
Initially, the Philadelphia resident bypassed airport security and accessed a Delta flight to Paris on November 26, managing to do so without a valid boarding pass. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials revealed that Dali slipped through the ID check at JFK by blending in with a group of passengers. In security screening, her carry-on bag was flagged due to containing two bottles of water, which she subsequently discarded.
While still in the air, Dali was identified as a stowaway and taken into custody upon landing in Paris, where she was denied entry into France.
Further complicating matters, CBS News reported that Dali caused a disruption during her return trip on Saturday. Authorities’ attempts to escort her back to the U.S. led to her removal from that flight by French law enforcement, resulting in over two hours of delay.
