Strategies for Attracting More Workers in Anno 1800

In the strategy game Anno 1800, the workforce is an integral aspect of progressing your economy and enhancing production capabilities. Workers, once unlocked, play a vital role in elevating the production of essential goods, particularly as players advance through the historical eras, including the pivotal Industrial Revolution, initiated by constructing the first Worker’s house.

As your civilization transitions, it becomes increasingly clear that a significant number of workers are necessary to facilitate the development of advanced buildings, such as the Police Station, which is crucial for progressing further in the game.

How to Increase Your Workforce in Anno 1800

To expand your workforce and accumulate more workers in Anno 1800, you must upgrade existing Farmer’s residences into Worker’s Houses. This transformation requires fulfilling three primary conditions: connecting residences to a nearby Marketplace via roadways, ensuring a continuous provision of Fish through the Fishery, and supplying work clothes produced by Framework knitters.

The Marketplace serves as the primary hub for your residences, where families can procure essential goods. It is important to ensure that each Farmer’s residence is well-linked to the Marketplace, allowing easy access for the families to fulfill their basic needs.

Once you meet these prerequisites and ensure the satisfaction of the families, they will gradually expand their household size. After the number of inhabitants exceeds ten, upgrading to a Worker’s House becomes an option, requiring just four timber. Notably, the happiness of the residents doesn’t need as much attention as in previous iterations of the Anno series; simply satisfying their needs is sufficient for the upgrade.

Upon upgrading, the former farmers transition into workers, enabling them to contribute to more sophisticated production facilities like those for bricks, thereby boosting the economy of your settlement. To unlock advanced materials and achieve a workforce of over 300, however, players must adopt a more strategic approach beyond just transforming Farmer houses.

A sound strategy involves creating additional Farmer residences in tandem with upgrading existing ones. Failing to do so can lead to an abrupt withdrawal of many farmers from their roles, ultimately disrupting production. Maintaining balance between the farmer and worker populations is critical for a sustainable growth trajectory.

Many players, including myself, have experienced setbacks by neglecting this balance. Observing the total numbers of workers and farmers at the top of the screen can help; the plough icon indicates the farmer count while the hammer represents the number of workers. By carefully managing your population dynamics, you can steadily grow your workforce while continuing to scale up production capabilities.
