Mushtaq Khan: A Harrowing Kidnapping Exposed
Renowned actor Mushtaq Khan, noted for his memorable role in the film Welcome alongside Akshay Kumar, has recounted a traumatic experience after being kidnapped from the Delhi-Meerut highway. This distressing incident unfolded on November 20, when Khan was ostensibly invited to an award ceremony in Meerut.
His business partner, Shivam Yadav, disclosed to India Today Digital that Khan was misled into entering a vehicle purportedly for transport to the event, only to be taken deep into remote territory away from Delhi. Upon his arrival in the city, Khan received flight tickets and an advance as part of the ruse, and after he arrived, unwittingly placed himself in danger.
After being transported to a secluded location near Bijnor, Khan endured nearly 12 hours of captivity, during which he faced torture at the hands of his abductors, who demanded a ransom of one crore rupees. Despite their violent treatment, the kidnappers only succeeded in withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from both Khan’s and his son’s bank accounts.
Shivam recounted that Khan’s escape was catalyzed by the morning azaan, the Islamic call to prayer. Hearing the sound prompted him to realize there was a mosque in proximity, and he took the courageous decision to flee. With help from nearby residents, he ultimately connected with authorities and was able to return home safely.
“Mushtaq sir and his family were deeply affected by the incident. He was determined to file a police report once he settled down. Afterward, I traveled to Bijnor to file an official FIR. We have documented evidence, including flight tickets, bank transactions, and CCTV footage from near the airport. He even remembers the neighborhood and the specific house where he was held. I’m confident that the police will apprehend the perpetrators soon,” Shivam stated.
This incident mirrors a worrying trend, as it follows closely on the heels of a similar kidnapping case involving comedian Sunil Pal, who also fell victim to a deceptive invitation leading to his abduction. This pattern raises alarming concerns about a potential syndicate targeting celebrities by exploiting event invitations for financial gain.
Shivam noted the shock shared within their circle. “Had we known about the previous case, we might have been more vigilant. After Mushtaq sir returned, discussions among friends highlighted the similarity with Sunil’s situation, which is troubling considering both individuals faced such severe threats. We sincerely hope that increased awareness and stronger protective measures will be implemented for everyone in the future.”
Currently, Mushtaq Khan is reportedly recovering well and is anticipated to make a public statement about his ordeal in the near future.
