Veteran Street Fighter competitor GamerBee is making waves once again in the esports scene after signing with Flash Wolves, a prominent team in Taiwan’s esports community.
The perception that players are quickly aging out of esports is gradually changing. Unlike games such as Counter-Strike 2 or League of Legends, which often feature younger players, the fighting game community, particularly Street Fighter, exemplifies longevity in competitive gaming.
Prominent figures like Hayao have demonstrated that it’s possible to excel with age; he dominated the EVO Awards with his Street Fighter: Third Strike performance at 42, while Daigo remains a formidable competitor at 43. These seasoned players continue to perform at elite levels in the Street Fighter community.
GamerBee, known for his impressive run as a finalist at EVO in Street Fighter IV, has remained active in the tournament scene, especially with the rollout of Street Fighter 6. His recent signing at age 46 marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the oldest professional player to join a major esports organization.
GamerBee Becomes the Oldest Esports Professional at 46
Born in 1979, GamerBee was already seen as an experienced player during his height of competition. At 36, he reached the finals of EVO 2015, solidifying his reputation as one of the top competitors in Street Fighter IV.
His accolades include high placements at numerous major tournaments from DreamHack to EVO and various official Capcom events, where he notably faced off against legendary players like Tokido and Daigo—both towering figures in the scene.
Almost a decade later, GamerBee continues his pursuit of excellence and has officially become part of Flash Wolves, one of Taiwan’s most recognized esports organizations.
In Taiwan, the Flash Wolves hold a prestigious standing in the esports landscape, known for their successful teams in titles like League of Legends, Arena of Valor, and Hearthstone. Recently, they have been gaining recognition for their achievements particularly in mobile esports.
With GamerBee now signed, the team aims to reemerge on the global esports stage, particularly in the realm of Street Fighter 6.
“I believe that with their support, I can focus more on training and competition, and strive for even greater goals!” GamerBee expressed in his announcement.
Currently, he is competing in the Capcom Pro Tour and other prominent events for Street Fighter 6, narrowly missing out on global qualifications against tough competitors like Oil King, Chris Wong, and Xian.
The future holds immense potential for GamerBee now that he has the backing of a major organization, and fans eagerly await to see how he performs throughout 2025.
While seasoned professionals continue to showcase their skills, younger players are also emerging in the competitive arena. For instance, 15-year-old prodigy Blaz recently made headlines after securing a $100k reward for his impressive second-place finish at Capcom Cup 11.
