Mirra Andreeva Exits Stuttgart Open in Last 16
Seventeen-year-old tennis sensation Mirra Andreeva has been eliminated from the Stuttgart Open, falling in straight sets to fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova during the round of 16.
Ranked as the sixth seed in the tournament, Andreeva, who has already secured two titles this season, faced a tough match against the unseeded Alexandrova. The encounter concluded with a score of 6-3, 6-2, after a little over an hour of play.
Andreeva made headlines earlier this year by becoming the youngest champion at a WTA 1000 event when she won the Dubai Tennis Championships in February. She followed up that achievement with another victory at Indian Wells in March, showcasing her impressive talent on the court.
Despite her strong season, Andreeva struggled to gain momentum against the experienced Alexandrova, who marked her fourth victory this year over a top-10 opponent.
Looking ahead, Alexandrova is set to face American third seed Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals, after Pegula convincingly defeated Poland’s Magdalena Frech with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 performance.
In other quarter-final matchups, Italian fifth seed Jasmine Paolini secured her place in the next round by overcoming unseeded German Jule Niemeier, winning 6-1, 7-5. Paolini will now face the winner of the upcoming match between American fourth seed Coco Gauff and Germany’s Ella Seidel.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka is also advancing to the quarter-finals, where she will compete against Belgium’s Elise Mertens. This matchup comes after Anastasia Potapova withdrew due to injury before their scheduled last-16 matchup.
Finally, Polish second seed Iga Swiatek awaits the outcome of an intense contest between American seventh seed Emma Navarro and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, as the pair prepares to battle it out later today.
