Supercell Expands with New London Office and Full Acquisition of Space Ape

Supercell, the Finnish mobile game developer known for its popular titles such as Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars, has officially announced the opening of a new office in London. This strategic move aims to bolster its global workforce and tap into the pool of talent that the vibrant London gaming scene offers, supplementing its existing offices located in Helsinki, Shanghai, Seoul, and San Francisco. The newly established London team will focus on both new projects and the ongoing support of live service games, which includes the recently released Squad Busters.

Ilkka Paananen, the CEO of Supercell, expressed his enthusiasm about this development, stating, “We believe the best teams create the best games. We are really excited to find our place within London’s incredibly talented games ecosystem by joining forces with Space Ape. This move will bring in amazing new colleagues and strengthen our game development teams. Access to top global talent enables us to accelerate our mission of developing great games that players enjoy for years and cherish forever.”

In addition to the new office, Supercell has disclosed that it has increased its investment in its subsidiary developer Space Ape to full ownership. Initially, Supercell acquired a 62% stake in Space Ape in 2017 for approximately $55.8 million. Following this, Supercell invested an additional $37 million in 2022, raising its stake to 75%. Now, for an undisclosed amount, Supercell plans to complete the acquisition for 100% ownership of Space Ape by 2025.

John Earner, CEO of Space Ape, highlighted the strength of the existing partnership with Supercell, saying, “We’ve loved working closely with Supercell for many years, and this move is the next stage in that partnership. I am so proud of Space Ape’s contribution to the gaming industry over the last twelve years and look forward to this next step in our evolution as part of the Supercell team.”
