New Superman Trailer Unveiled: James Gunn’s Vision Takes Flight

Look, up in the sky! Fans can now experience the excitement surrounding James Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot with the release of its official trailer.

On Thursday, following a week filled with promotional activity, Warner Bros. alongside Gunn, known for his work on franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy, unveiled the official trailer for the much-anticipated film. Written and directed by Gunn, who also serves as co-chair of DC Studios, the movie will feature David Corenswet in the leading role as Superman. The cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Skylar Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.

Fans can look forward to seeing Superman on the big screen when the film hits theaters on July 11, 2025.

Gunn has been quite open about the journey of bringing this iconic character back to life, engaging with fans on social media and offering insights during a select set visit last year. Recent reports have shed light on the unique aspects of this rendition of Superman. Gunn emphasized that the film diverges from typical origin narratives, choosing instead to delve deeper into the character’s world. “We just start in the middle of the action,” he explained. “Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman’s guts from the beginning, although they don’t know each other personally. So we start right in the middle of the action.”

Gunn, who previously garnered acclaim for his distinct blend of humor and music in the Guardians of the Galaxy series and The Suicide Squad, is taking a different approach with Superman. He aims to balance hopefulness with gravity in this film. “I start with a place that’s very hopeful, fun… but incredibly grounded [and] incredibly serious all at the same time,” Gunn noted. “It’s humorous, but it certainly is not as [comedic] as either Suicide Squad or Guardians. There’s plenty of humor in it. People like Rachel are so funny and David is very [funny as well], so there’s humor in it, but it’s trying to create something that is grounded, but also it’s an incredibly fanciful world.”

Gunn’s vision for Superman may blend elements reminiscent of high fantasy series like Game of Thrones with a distinct superhero narrative. The film aims to explore the complex dynamics of a universe where superheroes exist while capturing the magic that accompanies such extraordinary tales.
