As the release date for his period gangster drama Retro approaches, Suriya is generating excitement among fans. The film’s official trailer was recently revealed at a major event in Chennai, which was met with enthusiasm from attendees. During his speech at the unveiling, Suriya expressed his heartfelt appreciation for his supporters and team. Additionally, he took a moment to honor his wife and fellow actress Jyothika, affectionately referring to her as ‘Kannadi Poo,’ a phrase inspired by one of the film’s songs featuring actress Pooja Hegde.
In his remarks, the actor, known for his role in Soorari Pottru, highlighted the multifaceted nature of his character, indicating that the audience can expect a rich narrative blending elements of love, humor, and conflict. He shared his gratitude towards his fans, emphasizing that their support, along with that of his beloved wife, has been foundational to his joy and achievements.
Suriya stated, “There’ll be many layers in the film with love – laughter – war. I’m here because of you all. I’m here because of your love, and thanks to my ‘Kannadi Poo’ Jo, my journey wouldn’t be a happier one without her,” as reported by Pinkvilla.
Regarding Retro, the film, directed by Karthi Subbaraj, includes notable actors such as Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar, Prakash Raj, and Sujith Shankar, each playing pivotal roles in the storyline.
Produced collaboratively by Suriya and Jyothika under their 2D Entertainment banner, Retro represents another project for the couple, who previously worked together on acclaimed films like Soorarai Pottru, Jai Bhim, and Oh My Dog, among others.
The trailer presents Suriya as a gangster enmeshed in a cycle of violence and turmoil, with Pooja playing his romantic partner. A poignant line from Suriya’s character reflects on their time apart: “Our separated lives over the past years almost changed her into a Buddha, and me into a demon.” Suriya’s compelling performance as the troubled gangster adds to the film’s intrigue, highlighting his struggle against the inner forces that push him toward violence.
In addition to Retro, Suriya will also appear in the film tentatively titled Suriya 45, directed by RJ Balaji, which features the talented Trisha Krishnan in a leading role.
