April 17, 2025
Dnipro, Ukraine
A devastating drone attack executed by Russian forces in Dnipro has resulted in multiple casualties and numerous injuries, as confirmed by regional officials. Eyewitness accounts from local residents depict a scene of chaos and terror, with many still processing the trauma of the incident.
One local resident recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “We heard the drone flying overhead, followed by eerie silence before a sudden crash that shattered the stillness. It was terrifying. We live on the fifth floor, so we decided to move one floor down. Just when it felt safe again, drones began to strike one after another. I can hardly find the words—I am still in shock.”
Another survivor, who has been displaced from Sloviansk, expressed the psychological toll such attacks inflict. “Every time I hear a loud noise, it triggers memories I can’t escape. Even the sound of a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner brings back vivid recollections of the chaos,” they remarked, highlighting the long-lasting impact of war on mental health.
According to Serhiy Lysak, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, at least 30 individuals were injured in the attack, including five children. Sixteen of these victims required hospitalization, illustrating the attack’s severity. Reports indicate that the drone strikes ignited several fires across the area, exacerbating the emergency response.
Mayor Borys Filatov reported that one of the drone strikes occurred alarmingly close to municipal offices, landing within approximately 110 yards (100 meters) of the building. Additionally, the attack caused significant damage to residential areas, affecting at least 15 homes, as well as a student residence, an educational facility, and a food processing plant.
This incident underscores the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, where civilians are frequently caught in the crossfire of an evolving conflict. The resilience of the affected communities, coupled with the urgent need for continued international support, remains crucial as the situation unfolds.
