Sutton Stracke Reflects on an Emotional Journey in “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”

Sutton Stracke has recently navigated a particularly emotional season of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” In a conversation with Melvin Robert from “Extra,” she addressed remarks made by “Real Housewives of Orange County” star Tamra Judge, who labeled her mother, Reba, as “the new villain” in the franchise.

Responding to the comment, Sutton remarked, “I’m ignoring that. She doesn’t know my mother.” She emphasized that while she is no stranger to public scrutiny, sharing her family dynamics on television has made her feel vulnerable. “It’s very real, and I guess just to people out there to remember, you know, these are just real people and to be kind,” Sutton noted, underscoring the need for compassion in reality television.

This season explores Sutton’s healing journey as she invites cast members Garcelle Beauvais and Kyle Richards to her hometown of Augusta, Georgia. The trip includes poignant moments spent with Reba and revisiting her childhood home, which carries heavy memories including the tragic loss of her father, who died by suicide.

“I’ve been prepping emotionally to even talk about this because it’s one thing to live it and then another thing to watch it and then the third thing to talk about it again — so, yeah, it was an emotional season for me,” Sutton shared. She reflected on the impact her father’s death had on her family dynamics, stating, “You miss that mother dynamic, but she’s a great mother. She’s just different. She’s a different mother.”

Interestingly, Sutton pointed out that the show has facilitated a stronger bond between her and her mom. “This is what I love about this show — it actually healed my relationship with my mother,” she expressed, explaining that she approached the Augusta trip with a sense of hope and uncertainty about the outcome. “It ended so well and it’s gotten better and better and better, and now my mom and I talk about things all the time.”

She elaborated on the importance of open communication, explaining the significance of expressing her needs to her mother: “It was important that I was able to be heartfelt with my mother and tell her what I needed from her.”

Discussing her experiences in Augusta, Sutton shared the emotional weight of the memories tied to her childhood home. “It was tough, you know? My father shot himself in the backyard… my brother and his family moved into our family house a few years after and my niece died in that house when she was 13, so there were two deaths in that house,” she revealed. However, she also highlighted that the current occupants have created a joyful atmosphere, stating, “The family that lives there now, they have nine grandchildren, and there’s just fun and laughter and joy. It just makes me happy.”

Having Garcelle and Kyle present during this emotional journey proved to be a source of comfort for Sutton. “There was this, like, energy in the house, and they were emotional. We all got so emotional, but it was good. I left that house happy and joyful and smiling,” she recounted, emphasizing the strength of their friendship.

Casting light on her relationships, Sutton expressed, “Garcelle and I have been thick as thieves now for five years. She’s one of my closest-knit friends that I have. Kyle and I [had] a roller coaster, a ride of a friendship, but we are always going to be friends… She’s a really special person and she’s a good friend.” She defended her ties with Kyle against critics, reaffirming, “Yes, she is, yes, she is, that’s why I wanted her to come to Augusta with me.”

Outside of the drama in “RHOBH,” Sutton has also been focusing on her fashion endeavors. “We just shot my next capsule collection, which is going to come out… It’s been really fun. We’ve done really well,” she shared, expressing enthusiasm about merging her passion for fashion with sustainable practices. “To bring my love of the environment and my love of fashion together in one place, I’m really happy where we’re going.”
