Newcastle United’s Sven Botman Faces Extended Absence Due to Knee Injury
Newcastle United’s central defender Sven Botman is set to miss approximately eight weeks of action following a new knee injury, as confirmed by manager Eddie Howe.
The 25-year-old Dutch international made a return to the pitch in January after recovering from a significant setback—a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in March 2024—and is now grappling with issues affecting his other knee.
This season, Botman has participated in only five matches, having been sidelined for the last five games due to the recent injury. The extent of the problem necessitates a surgical procedure, which will keep him off the field for an estimated two months.
“We have been working on getting him back to peak condition; he was very close to returning for the Brighton game on March 2,” Howe explained. “However, on the eve of the match, he experienced a setback with his knee.”
Howe further detailed that this week, Botman continued to experience discomfort, leading to the decision for surgery. “He requires a minor operation to remove some fluid, after which he should be back to his usual self,” he added.
