The television series Godfather of Harlem, featuring Forest Whitaker in the role of the infamous Harlem gangster Bumpy Johnson during the turbulent 1960s, made its much-anticipated return this week for its fourth and final season. Alongside the new episodes, an original soundtrack has been released, expertly curated by Swizz Beatz.
The lead single from the soundtrack showcases a collaboration between Swizz and renowned artists Jadakiss and Pusha T in the track and accompanying video titled “Danger Danger.” This piece is produced by Swizz himself, along with Avenue Beatz and Beat Butcha, delivering a bold introduction with Swizz’s catchy chorus followed by a brief verse that leads into the lyrical prowess of Jadakiss and Pusha T, framed within the dynamic visual by director Fatking.
Jadakiss sets the tone with gripping lines delivered in his distinctive raspy style, starting off with, “I could put ’em on, I’d rather get ’em gone/ I won’t be satisfied until his body’s on the lawn.” Pusha T further elevates the track with thought-provoking and impactful verses, including, “Heard you rappers is robbing Paul to pay Peter/ Couldn’t imagine waiting to turn 50 to sell reefer” and “Can’t wait to cut these braids off, show you I’m Puerto Rican/ Murder on my mind, confidentially speaking/ For all you hot heads, these bullets is heatseeking.”
Fans are eagerly consuming Pusha T’s new material as they anticipate the Clipse’s revival. The final season’s soundtrack for Godfather of Harlem also boasts an impressive lineup of guest appearances, featuring talents such as Tobe Nwigwe, Sauce Walka, Larry June, Conway the Machine, Jadakiss, Pusha T, Cruel Youth, Swizz Beatz, Jay Electronica, ScarLip, Maglera Doe Boy, and Sean Cross.
