In a recent interview with Australian YouTuber Lilian Tahmasian, Dolmayan expressed his views on the political landscape and affirmed his support for Trump during the 2024 election, stating he is pleased with the outcome. “I’m glad he won, because it brings a little sanity back,” Dolmayan remarked, emphasizing his belief that the political climate has improved with Trump in office.
Having relocated to California from Beirut as a young child during the Lebanese Civil War, Dolmayan further articulated his perspective on immigration policies. He highlighted the importance of maintaining border security while acknowledging that the United States has a long-standing tradition of welcoming immigrants. “We need law and order,” he stated, drawing a parallel between securing one’s home and creating secure borders. Dolmayan underscored the necessity for orderly immigration processes, advocating for a system wherein newcomers contribute to society and abide by the laws.
His support for Trump has not come without challenges. In 2023, Dolmayan revealed through social media that his political stance has cost him friendships and a significant number of followers. Nevertheless, he clarified that he is not strictly aligned with either side of the political spectrum. “Whether you’re left or right makes no difference to me,” he said, emphasizing his focus on opposing actions he views as wrong, regardless of the political affiliation involved.
Dolmayan elaborated, indicating that his alignment could shift based on political behavior, stating, “If the conservatives go way off on the right… I’m gonna be with the Democrats at that point.” He described himself as a realist, committed to advocating for what he believes to be in the best interest of people.
System of a Down, formed in 1997, gained acclaim for their politically charged music, producing critical hits such as Toxicity and Mezmerize. After a hiatus beginning in 2006, the band regrouped in 2010 and has performed intermittently. In 2020, they released two singles, “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” yet have not indicated plans for a new studio album, a subject that has left Dolmayan feeling frustrated regarding the band’s future musical direction.
