T-Rex enthusiasts with aspirations as grand as their costumes gathered in Auburn, Washington, this past week for the annual T-Rex World Championship races at Emerald Downs.
This exciting event attracted over 200 dedicated dinosaur fans, all vying for glory in a thrilling 100-yard dash, fully clad in their dino outfits. According to Emerald Downs, the day drew nearly 6,000 attendees who came to witness the lively races.
Event Highlights and Categories
The championships featured a variety of race categories tailored to participants of different ages and affiliations. As noted in a post on their Facebook page, races were organized for “Kid Dinos,” “Dinosaur Dinosaurs” (50 years and older), Lady Dinos, and Dino Men. This inclusive approach ensured that everyone had a chance to compete and showcase their dinosaur spirit.
Among the notable racers, Cheyn Tam-Switzer emerged victorious in the men’s category, while Paislie Thompson took home the win in the women’s division. In the 50 plus category, a participant simply named “Bob” claimed the title.
Young Racers Shine
Young competitors also had their moment to shine. The championship race for those aged 11 and under saw “Royce” crowned as the winner, while Josias Colin secured first place in the 12-16 age category.
Participants in the T-Rex World Championships were encouraged to register on the Emerald Downs website. For those who wanted to join in the fun spontaneously, costumes were available for purchase on-site in the event’s gift shop.

The T-Rex World Championship races commenced on Saturday, August 17, at 1:30 p.m., highlighting the engaging communal atmosphere that accompanies this playful competition.
