Taylor Swift Breaks Records at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards
The 2024 Billboard Music Awards, held on December 12, highlighted Taylor Swift as the standout artist of the evening. With her album “The Tortured Poets Department” dominating the charts for 15 consecutive weeks, Swift’s achievements during the event were well anticipated. The album’s remarkable performance included a historic accomplishment where it achieved all top 14 spots on the Hot 100 singles chart in its first week, setting a new industry benchmark.
Swift entered this year’s awards ceremony tied with Drake at 39 BBMAs, sharing the title for the most awarded artist in the show’s history. Although Drake secured several wins on the night, including Top Rap Artist, Swift significantly outperformed him, walking away with a total of 10 awards. Her wins included prestigious titles such as Top Artist, Top Female Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album for her work on “Tortured Poets Department,” bringing her all-time record to an impressive 49 awards.
In contrast, country rocker Zach Bryan, who initially led the nominations, finished the night with five awards, earning recognition as Top Country Touring Artist and Top Rock Artist, among others. His track “I Remember Everything,” featuring Kacey Musgraves, also took home awards for Top Streaming Song and Top Rock Song. Close on his heels was fellow country artist Morgan Wallen, who captured four awards, including Top Male Artist and Top Collaboration for “I Had Some Help” with Post Malone.
Other notable multiple winners included Shaboozey, who won three awards but fell short in the Top Hot 100 Song category despite his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” tying the record with 19 weeks at the top. Instead, Teddy Swims triumphed in this category with his song “Lose Control.” The Latin group Fuerza Regida and emerging artist Benson Boone each secured two awards, while Bad Bunny made a mark with three wins, including Top Latin Artist. Additionally, Chappell Roan was recognized as the Top New Artist, reflecting her consistent rise in the music industry with her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.”
In total, artists were honored across 72 categories, with winners determined by the same metrics that Billboard utilizes for its weekly charts. The night celebrated diverse musical talent and significant achievements within the industry. Who were your favorite winners from this year’s ceremony?
