Taylor Swift Loses Title of Youngest Self-Made Woman Billionaire to Lucy Guo
In 2023, Taylor Swift was recognized as the youngest self-made woman billionaire globally, according to a report by Forbes. However, just two years later, this title has shifted to Lucy Guo, a 30-year-old co-founder of Scale AI, as recently detailed by Forbes.
Guo launched Scale AI in 2016 at the young age of 21, alongside her then-19-year-old partner, Alexandr Wang. While Wang served as CEO, Guo was responsible for overseeing operations and product design. Their entrepreneurial prowess was recognized when they both appeared on Forbes‘ 30 Under 30 list in 2018. However, a disagreement over the company’s direction led to Guo’s departure from Scale AI that same year, as Wang reportedly made the decision to dismiss her.
Despite her exit from the company, Guo maintains an estimated 5% stake in Scale AI, which has gained substantial valuation, now approaching $1.2 billion. Recent reports from Business Insider indicate that Scale AI is considering a valuation of up to $25 billion through a tender offer. As a result, Forbes estimates her current net worth at approximately $1.25 billion, factoring in both her investments in Scale AI and her second startup, Passes.
Guo now ranks among only six self-made women billionaires worldwide who are under the age of 40. This elite group includes influential figures like Swift, aged 35, with a net worth of $1.6 billion, and Rihanna, 37, who boasts a net worth of $1.4 billion.
In a related development, Swift surpassed Rihanna as the wealthiest female musician globally last October. According to Forbes, her financial success was driven by the earnings from her global Eras Tour and the substantial value of her music catalog. Swift became the first musician to achieve billionaire status primarily through her creative works and live performances. Her estimated wealth includes around $600 million from touring and royalties, $600 million from her music catalog, and $125 million in real estate assets.
