Bishop T.D. Jakes Suffers Health Incident While Preaching
The founder of The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, Bishop T.D. Jakes, experienced a health scare during his sermon over the weekend, prompting an outpouring of concern from his congregation.
On Sunday, while addressing his congregation, the 67-year-old bishop began to tremble and ultimately sat down, drawing immediate attention as congregants gathered around him, with one individual calling for prayers.
In an official statement, the church reported, “Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message.”
During the latter part of his sermon, Jakes expressed his enduring passion for preaching. “I still love to preach, I ain’t tired of preaching,” he declared. He shared a poignant analogy about the reciprocal nature of preaching, stating, “Ever gone to the hospital to visit somebody and you thought you were going to encourage them and they encourage you? That’s what preaching is like. You think you’re giving out something but you’re getting back more than you gave.”
As he transitioned into a closing prayer, he began to recite, “Now Lord, let the words from my mouth and the meditations in my heart be acceptable.” However, his voice faltered as he concluded with, “oh Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let him go in peace.” Shortly thereafter, his microphone dropped, and he started to tremble and slump as congregation members hurried to assist him, including his wife, Serita.
Later that day, Jakes’ daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, along with her husband, Touré Roberts, provided an update via social media. They assured followers that Jakes was on the mend, stating, “Bishop is doing well, he’s recovering well, he’s under medical care, he’s strong.”
As of Monday morning, no details had been made public regarding the location where Jakes was taken for treatment, and inquiries sent to the church remained unanswered.
Bishop T.D. Jakes founded The Potter’s House in 1996. The church has grown significantly since its inception, currently boasting over 30,000 members with additional campuses in Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas, as well as in Denver, Colorado, according to his official website.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Jakes has made significant contributions to literature and film. He is a bestselling author and has appeared as both a producer and actor in various projects. Notably, he delivered an address at the inauguration of Barack Obama in 2009.
