Illegal Immigrant in Texas Fires 30 Shots During Hallucination

A 47-year-old man in Texas, Homero Salinas, was arrested after firing 30 rounds into his home while experiencing drug-induced hallucinations. Initial police investigations revealed that Salinas was living in the United States illegally.

Officers from the Ferris Police Department were alerted around 2:40 a.m. when Salinas called 911, claiming that individuals were attempting to kill him and that he believed his entire family had been murdered. Under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, Salinas acted on these delusions and discharged multiple rounds in the direction of his home, causing his family to seek shelter in fear.

Upon arrival, police discovered Salinas walking nearby and took him into custody. Salinas falsely claimed to be wearing a ballistic vest at the time. Authorities located multiple firearms and a cache of ammunition at the scene. Fortunately, his family members were discovered unharmed, hiding inside the residence, unaware of both the call to 911 and the shooting incident.

Further investigations revealed that Salinas, a Mexican citizen, had previously encountered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 2013 and had an immigration detainer placed on him. His ability to remain in the country and acquire firearms raised significant concerns for local officials.

Ferris City Manager Brooks Williams expressed relief that no injuries occurred during the incident, crediting the first responders for their effective handling of the situation. However, he highlighted the alarming implications of allowing someone without legal status to possess firearms. “This situation illustrates a systemic failure,” Williams stated. “It’s not just a local issue, it’s a broader societal concern.”

Deputy City Manager for Public Safety John DeLeon emphasized the necessity for stricter enforcement of immigration laws, stating, “When someone who has already had a detainer placed by ICE can acquire firearms and freely navigate a neighborhood with a weapon, it signals a failure in our enforcement strategies.” He insisted that the issue transcends political rhetoric and centers on community safety.
