Arch Manning Takes the Helm at Texas
The Arch Manning era has officially commenced at the University of Texas.
Following Quinn Ewers’ decision to enter the NFL Draft, Manning is poised to step into the starting quarterback role, likely holding this position through the 2025 season and possibly into 2026 depending on his career trajectory.
Arch Manning, the son of Cooper Manning and the grandson of ex-NFL quarterback Archie Manning, has football pedigree running through his veins, being the nephew of renowned quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning. During his time on the field this season, he accumulated 939 passing yards and threw nine touchdown passes, also demonstrating his agility with four rushing touchdowns.
“This offseason is pivotal for him,” remarked former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. “It’s an opportunity for him to identify areas for improvement and enhance his performance. Having only played in three games, he should reflect on what went well and where he can grow. Setting the stage for a productive spring is essential…”
“For Arch, the chances ahead are significant. It’s important he doesn’t shoulder excessive pressure. He needs to remain authentic and leverage his strengths on the field,” McCoy added.
Building on Experience
Manning’s utilization was primarily in run-pass option scenarios, allowing the Longhorns to diversify their offensive strategy. He stepped into the starting role during games against Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State when Ewers was sidelined due to injury.
In his debut against Louisiana-Monroe, Manning threw for 258 yards and secured two touchdown passes, contributing to a resounding 51-3 victory. He followed that performance with a robust showing against Mississippi State, accumulating 325 passing yards and scoring another pair of touchdowns in a 35-13 win. However, upon Ewers’ return, he resumed his backup role.
Challenges Ahead
The Texas offensive lineup is expected to face challenges in the upcoming season. Key players such as top receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond have declared for the NFL Draft, and senior tight end Gunnar Helm has exhausted his eligibility.
Additionally, running back Jaydon Blue and offensive linemen Kelvin Banks Jr. and Cam Williams have also opted to pursue professional opportunities in the NFL, marking a substantial transition for Manning as he prepares to take on the starting role.
As Manning prepares for this next chapter at Texas, the focus will be on developing his skills and adapting to the evolving landscape of college football, as he aims to continue the legacy of the Manning family and lead the Longhorns to success.
