Naga Chaitanya Expresses Desire for a Romantic Comedy with Sai Pallavi, Reflecting on the Complexities of Love
Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi are gearing up for the release of their latest film, Thandel, which is set to hit theaters on February 7 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. This marks their return to the screen four years following their collaboration in Love Story.
The narrative of Thandel revolves around a fisherman entangled in peril when he is captured by the Pakistani coast guard. Amidst this intense plot, the film intertwines a love story that serves as its emotional core. In an exclusive dialogue with News18 Showsha, Chaitanya humorously reflects on his and Pallavi’s casting in predominantly tragic love stories. “I wouldn’t say our dynamic falls into the typical tragic mold this time,” he laughs, acknowledging the more optimistic ending found in Love Story despite its painful moments.
Diving deeper into the themes of Thandel, Chaitanya articulates his perspective on love’s unpredictable nature, stating, “The film portrays a love story that navigates both joy and sorrow. True love experiences cycles of happiness interlaced with pain, which I believe enhances its authenticity. We aim to portray a multifaceted relationship, emblematic of the various emotions that love can elicit—both the challenges and the joyous moments.”
Interestingly, he expresses a yearning to explore a romantic comedy with Pallavi in the future. Known affectionately as Chay, he previously mentioned feeling nervous while performing with her, especially in dance sequences. Has this anxiety faded? “While I won’t claim I am entirely free of nerves, I’ve certainly gained confidence since Love Story. It’s widely recognized that she is an exceptional dancer, which initially intimidated me. However, my experiences with Thandel have equipped me with greater self-assurance,” Chaitanya notes.
Although Sai Pallavi lacks formal training in dance, she has captivated audiences with her notable performances in songs like Saranga Dariya, Rowdy Baby, and the classical routine in Pranavalaya. Her dance journey began with her participation in the 2008 dance reality show Ungalil Yaar Adutha Prabhu Deva, where she showcased her talent, later cementing her place as a fan-favorite.
Chaitanya acknowledges the invaluable assistance Pallavi provided during one of the film’s elaborate sequences themed around Mahashivratri, where they performed as the deities Shiv and Parvati. “She is incredibly supportive and offers me valuable dancing insights. Her expertise simplifies the complex steps, making the entire process smoother for me as a co-star. The dedication to this particular scene even involved a significant budget of Rs 4 crore,” he shares.
Reflecting on his role in Thandel, Chaitanya describes it as one of his most demanding performances to date. “The transformation for this character was profound. I had the opportunity to visit Srikakulam, engage with the families of fishermen, and witness their daily struggles, which deeply inspired me. This reality check shifted my perspective and grounded me in a way I hadn’t anticipated,” he reveals.
