Addison Rae Opens Up About Love, Music, and Life in Rolling Stone Interview

In the February issue of Rolling Stone, Addison Rae candidly shares insights into her dating experiences and the evolution of her music career.

The 24-year-old, who gained fame as a TikTok sensation before branching out into music, reflected on a past relationship that left her feeling cautious about future romances. “I’m very guarded when it comes to relationships, because my first public relationship taught me a lot about myself,” she noted. This relationship was marked by allegations of infidelity, with Rae stating, “I think he cheated on me. He says he didn’t.”

Looking back on that turbulent chapter, Rae described it as “a sh*t show,” emphasizing the instability and drama that characterized the union. She went on to discuss her relationship with Bryce Hall, saying, “I believe there’s good in everyone, so I like to think there’s a good part of him. We were really young.”

In addition to discussing her personal life, Rae addressed the uncertain future of TikTok amid ongoing discussions about a potential ban on the platform. “That’s that full moon for me. TikTok definitely gave me a lot of things, so it would be really sad to [see it] go, but hopefully the things that I create and put out surpass that platform,” she expressed. She acknowledged the significant role TikTok played in launching her career, stating, “I was like, ‘This is how I’m going to be able to do what I’ve always wanted to do.’”

As she advances in her music journey, Rae describes her artistic persona, suggesting she embodies the “girl next door” archetype but also hints at a more rebellious side. “I’ll be your girl next door but maybe there’s a wild side to the girl next door,” she remarked. Reflecting on her initial foray into music, she recounted her first meeting at Columbia Records, where she presented her ideas through a mood board, despite not having any music to showcase at that time. “It was about trust. Like, ‘Yes, I’m in the clouds, and I enjoy being there. But I’m also serious,” she explained.

Rae also took a moment to acknowledge her mentor, Charli XCX, praising her support and insight. Ahead of the Grammy Awards, where they are nominated for Best Remixed Recording for “Von dutch,” Rae said that Charli “respected me and my ideas.” She added, “It was the first time I really took the step on my own to be confident in the ideas I had and follow that. I owe that all to Charli.”

Adding to her creative growth, Rae shared experiences with renowned pop producer Max Martin, highlighting his advice on authenticity in songwriting. “I had told him I struggle with talking about things that are really close to me. He’s like, ‘The only way you’re going to really push yourself [is] to say things that are true and real. Once you spill it out, you can always take it down, but if you start shallow, it’s hard to bump it up,’” she recalled.

Through her revelations, Addison Rae not only sheds light on her personal narrative but also illustrates her journey as an artist navigating the complexities of fame, relationships, and creative expression.
