What you need to know
The Amazfit Helio Ring has undergone a significant price reduction, now available for $199, down from its original price of $299. Additionally, users of the Helio Ring will benefit from complimentary access to two of Amazfit’s subscriptions: Zepp Aura, valued at $69 per year, and Zepp Fitness, at $29 per year, effectively resolving a major concern for consumers surrounding subscription costs.
Amazfit’s decision to permanently lower the price of the Helio Ring and provide its subscriptions without charge comes in response to previous critiques regarding the ring’s initial claims of having “no subscriptions required.” Many users found that certain functionalities necessitated costly subscriptions, such as detailed sleep analysis, fitness summaries, and chatbot interactions, prompting criticism of the company’s marketing approach.
“We heard the feedback and are now offering all of the Zepp Aura and Zepp Fitness features to new and existing ring users for free, for life,” an Amazfit representative stated recently.
The Zepp Aura service will monitor sleep-related issues like sleep apnea and insomnia while providing insights into users’ sleep patterns. It also offers wellness coaching and an AI-powered audio feature to facilitate better sleep through calming music played via the user’s phone. Meanwhile, Zepp Fitness provides comprehensive weekly or monthly fitness reports and includes a chatbot designed to assist with personal training regimens.
When combined, the original cost of the Zepp Aura and Zepp Fitness subscriptions reached $100 annually. Comparatively, this is still more expensive than the annual fee associated with an Oura Ring Gen 3 membership, which stands at $70. With these changes, Helio Ring owners can access these beneficial tools at no cost.
Inquiries were made to Amazfit regarding whether users who previously subscribed to the Zepp services would receive any form of compensation or reimbursement for the now-free subscriptions. Updates will follow if a response is received.
In the broader market of smart rings, the Amazfit Helio Ring has become comparatively more accessible, now priced at $199. When evaluated alongside competitors like the Oura Ring, which ranges from $300 to $550 plus a monthly fee, and the Samsung Galaxy Ring at $399, the Helio Ring positions itself as an attractive option. Although it presents challenges such as a limited battery life and fewer size choices, its affordability may offset these drawbacks for potential buyers.
Amazfit is also set to release a revamped Zepp app on October 14, aiming to enhance the user experience for both Amazfit watch and ring owners. The redesign will introduce new features, including a workout exertion score, health monitoring capabilities, and a food camera diary for logging dietary intake.
The health monitoring section of the Zepp app will consolidate important metrics such as recovery rates, resting heart rate (RHR), heart rate variability (HRV), and sleep quality to help users manage their health better. Alerts regarding any statistics that require attention will also be provided, while healthy stats will be marked as “Within Range” in the main view, ensuring easy usability.
The combination of a lower price point and the forthcoming improvements to the Zepp app suggests a positive outlook for the Amazfit Helio Ring as a cost-effective smart ring solution, though many consumers may still opt for alternatives that come with a premium price tag.
Affordable and sub-free
The Amazfit Helio Ring provides essential sleep insights, a comprehensive suite of health sensors including EDA and skin temperature, compatibility with Amazfit smartwatches for basic fitness tracking, and the added advantage of Aura sleep coaching, creating a compelling case for budget-conscious health enthusiasts.
