HMD Skyline 2 Set for Launch in July 2025
Rumors indicate that HMD is preparing to release the HMD Skyline 2, following the original Skyline model, which uniquely supports the Qi 2 magnetic power profile (MPP) standard. This feature enables the smartphone to wirelessly charge and interface with accessories equipped with integrated magnets, a capability not commonly found in other Android devices.
Unlike competitors such as OnePlus, OPPO, and Samsung, which require special cases for Qi 2 MPP accessory functionality, the original HMD Skyline’s built-in magnets allow for a more seamless user experience. This advantage sets it apart in a crowded market where wireless charging capabilities vary greatly among key brands.
According to leaker smashx_60 on Twitter, the new Skylight 2 model is expected to launch in July 2025. While this timeline suggests consumers will have to wait, it raises anticipation for what HMD might bring to the table.
Details regarding whether the Skyline 2 will continue to support Qi 2 MPP remain undisclosed, yet there is widespread hope that HMD will maintain this innovative feature, as it differentiates them from their competitors.
The original Skyline boasts a robust 4,600mAh battery with 33W wired and 15W wireless charging capabilities.
