In a poignant turn of events, Mike has become the fourth contestant to leave this season’s The Great British Baking Show. The 29-year-old farmer, a fourth-generation agriculturalist, was eliminated during the recently aired Caramel Week, which premiered on Netflix on October 18. In a brighter moment, Georgie, a 34-year-old pediatric nurse, was celebrated as the Star Baker by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
Among the contestants, 19-year-old dental student Sumayah had high hopes for Mike, expressing that he “was genuinely the heart of the group.” Known for his infectious smile and positive spirit, Mike’s departure hit hard, as he felt he had let his supporters down. Following the news, he shared a heartfelt letter reflecting on his journey on the show via his X (formerly Twitter) account, resonating with many fans.
In his letter, Mike expressed immense gratitude, stating, “What can I say but thank you!!! Thank you to every single person involved in putting together this magnificent show and thank you a million times over for including me in it!! Every person I have met throughout this experience has been among the most glorious people I have ever had the good fortune to know.” He highlighted the warmth and acceptance he felt throughout his time on the show, noting how the Bake Off’s joy had been a source of inspiration for him as a longtime fan.
Mike reflected on forming deep connections, saying, “I have also made 11 spectacularly wonderful lifelong friends – how can I possibly express my gratitude for that!!” The official Bake Off social media account shared a supportive message in response to his letter, reaffirming that he had brought pride to the group.

Mike concluded his touching note with a hope that he had not disappointed anyone, sending love and gratitude to his supporters. “You have my heart!! Sending oodles of love, hugs and thanks, Mike,” he signed off.
The Great British Bake Off, as it is known in the UK, amplified the impact of his sentiments, echoing the sentiment that he had not let anyone down and should take pride in his journey.
Reactions on social media were overwhelmingly supportive, with fans expressing their sadness at Mike’s exit. Comments ranged from heartfelt condolences to declarations of his status as an “icon,” emphasizing the positive influence he has had, particularly for those navigating their own journeys of identity. One fan expressed encouragement, saying, “No matter where you are just know that you’re loved and have it a little easier for someone who is struggling with their coming out. God Bless you from the US.”
Mike’s departure follows the eliminations of Hazel and John in prior weeks, while American contestant Jeff left the competition earlier due to health issues. Jeff reflected on his time in the show with warmth, highlighting the incredible camaraderie among the bakers and how meaningful the experience was for him, despite its brevity.
The Great British Baking Show, Season 15, continues to air Fridays on Netflix.
