Historian and narrator John Monsky made a triumphant return to Carnegie Hall on Monday and Tuesday nights, following his sold-out 2023 performance of The Great War & The Great Gatsby. This much-anticipated event was enhanced by a talented lineup of Broadway performers, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and a special guest appearance from Broadway Inspirational Voices, bringing historical narratives to life for an enthusiastic audience. Notable attendees included Executive and Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall Clive Gillinson, journalist Katie Couric, musician Peter Cincotti, members of the Harlem Hellfighters, and proud parents Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, who supported cast member Gracie McGraw. Also present were descendants of renowned historical figures featured in the program, such as Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, James Reese Europe, President Harry S. Truman, and Irving Berlin, along with Medal of Honor recipient Captain Jack H. Jacobs. This newly reimagined production, directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), uniquely blended various artistic elements including concert, suspense, drama, romance, and a tribute to rare and significant images and films sourced from the National Archives. The performance offered fresh insights through previously uncovered research and additional musical selections, creating a deeply emotional and visually striking exploration of World War I.

Joining Monsky on stage were prominent performers such as Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal), Nicholas Christopher (Hamilton), Micaela Diamond (Parade), Gracie McGraw (Babe at The New Group), and Diego Andres Rodriguez (Sunset Boulevard). Music supervision, conducting, and arranging were handled by Ian Weinberger (Hamilton), with Trey Ellett serving as associate director and Emily Maltby as choreographer. The casting was managed by Jim Carnahan, CSA, and Liz Fraser, CSA.

The Great War & The Great Gatsby is set to reach a broader audience through an upcoming televised broadcast, made possible by the support of Citadel founder and CEO Kenneth C. Griffin and his civic engagement initiative, Griffin Catalyst.
