Stranger Things: The First Shadow has made its debut on Broadway at the Marquis Theatre, officially opening on April 22, 2025. To commemorate the occasion, the cast members stepped onto the red carpet to celebrate this significant milestone.
About the Show
This play, penned by Kate Trefry—who also serves as a writer and co-executive producer for the acclaimed Netflix series—dives deep into the intricate world and mythology established by the original show. It is important to note that this production is distinct from the off-Broadway musical parody, Stranger Sings!
The popular science fiction horror drama, created by the Duffer Brothers, first premiered on July 15, 2016. Subsequent seasons were released in October 2017 and July 2019, followed by the fourth season, which aired in two parts in May and July 2022.
Set in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1959, the story revolves around the everyday life and challenges of its residents. Young Jim Hopper faces car troubles, while Bob Newby grapples with his sister’s dismissive attitude toward his radio show. Meanwhile, Joyce Maldonado is focused on graduating and moving on from her small town. The arrival of a new student, Henry Creel, introduces complexities that demonstrate how difficult it can be to escape the shadows of the past.
