In a jubilant nod to the success of Drag: The Musical during its vibrant Off-Broadway engagement at New World Stages, the show’s soundtrack, Drag: The Musical LIVE (The Cast Recording), has been released under PEG Records/Warner, allowing audiences to revisit the electrifying experience of the production.
With Liza Minnelli as a producer alongside co-creator Tomas Costanza and executive producer Nicholas Kaiser, the recording encapsulates the exuberance and charm that fans have embraced, ensuring they can enjoy the vibrant performances repeatedly.
This cast recording includes two newly added songs, “One of the Boys” and “The Showdown,” and showcases performances by Alaska Thunderfuck, a drag icon and integral part of the show, as well as legendary performer Liza Minnelli. The album features a host of celebrated drag and theater talents who contributed to the Off-Broadway hit, including Nick Adams, Adam Pascal, and Jujubee, among others. The production’s musical finesse is complemented by the engineering of two-time Tony Award nominee Drew Levy and mixed by Davey Badiuk.
Drag: The Musical, crafted by Alaska with Tomas Costanza and frequent collaborator Ashley Gordon, narrates the challenging rivalry between two drag bars facing economic uncertainty. Beneath the captivating visuals, including stunning costumes designed by Marco Marco, lies a potent narrative centered on themes of self-acceptance, identity, and the strength of community.
Infused with a musical palette reminiscent of Queen, Meatloaf, The New York Dolls, and Rocky Horror, Drag: The Musical made waves as it debuted Off-Broadway in October, following two successful runs in Los Angeles and a prior studio soundtrack recording that laid the groundwork for the stage version.
Mark your calendars, as Drag: The Musical is set to conclude its exciting Off-Broadway run on Sunday, April 27, 2025, after a total of 215 performances and 24 previews. For updates and reviews, audiences can follow the narrative of this remarkable production.
