A recent leak from a Weibo source indicates that the OPPO Find N5 might introduce “telephoto macro support,” which could also benefit the forthcoming OnePlus Open 2. Initial speculations hinted that the Open 2 would come with a 50MP periscope camera, but these new claims suggest a shift in direction. OnePlus has purportedly postponed the launch of its second-generation foldable device, with expectations now set for Q1 2025.
Enthusiasts looking forward to the next OnePlus foldable have new details to consider, particularly regarding its camera capabilities.
According to the Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu, the OPPO Find N5 is set to incorporate telephoto features that may influence the OnePlus Open 2 (as reported by Android Authority). The post suggests that the OPPO model could include macro capabilities within its telephoto lens.
The connection between these two devices stems from OnePlus and OPPO being sister companies, where OnePlus typically markets modified versions of OPPO’s devices globally.
As noted by the publication, adding telephoto macro support would enhance the OnePlus Open 2’s ability to capture intricate close-up images from a distance. This feature would function similarly to a 100mm macro lens found in traditional photography, allowing users to capture detailed shots without disrupting the subject.
The leaker mentions that the OPPO Find N5 is “almost ready,” suggesting its imminent launch. Given that the OnePlus Open 2 is also reported to have been postponed until 2025, there could be a chance for announcements in the coming months.
Interestingly, earlier rumors regarding this phone’s camera setup have fluctuated, with past discussions omitting the telephoto aspect altogether. Initial expectations included a triple camera array consisting of a 50MP main lens, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and the now-reconsidered 50MP periscope lens—shifting the conversation away from a dedicated telephoto lens. The previous model featured a 64MP telephoto lens, which raises questions about the current direction of this new version.
Additional rumors suggest that the Open 2 might offer wireless charging functionality, an anticipated upgrade given the absence of this feature in its predecessor.
Other projected specifications include a battery capacity ranging from 5,700mAh to 6,000mAh for this foldable design. There are also discussions surrounding a potential “2K Plus full high-definition” display.
Recently, OnePlus has begun teasing the Open 2 with a simple image showcasing the device’s thin profile. However, worries have been raised about whether achieving such a slim design will necessitate compromises in terms of specifications or features. Regardless, indications suggest that the anticipated launch of the device is expected in Q1 2025.
