The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Reunite for 15th Anniversary Tour

After a hiatus of nearly five years, the beloved Brooklyn indie-pop band, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, is making a triumphant return. Having announced their breakup some time ago, with frontman Kip Berman as the sole consistent member by the end, the group is now set to reunite. This comeback coincides with the 15th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, celebrated with a European tour.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart was released in February 2009 under Slumberland Records, and to mark this milestone, the band plans a series of performances in Spain and Portugal in the early months of 2024. In a lighthearted acknowledgment of the time elapsed, the band’s announcement on Instagram cheekily noted that the milestone would actually be 16 years by the time of the shows, humorously stating, “The Pains of Being Bad at Math.” Joining Berman for the performances will be original members Peggy Wang, Kurt Feldman, and Christoph Hochheim. Although original bassist Alex Naidus will not participate, Eddy Marshall from Berman’s solo project, the Natvral, will take over bass duties. The reunion shows will feature the complete self-titled album along with other tracks from that era, promising a nostalgic experience for fans.

This tour marks the first time the band will perform live since a special show in 2018, where they performed at a birthday celebration for music journalist Scott Lapatine at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn. During that event, Peggy Wang made a guest appearance for several songs, marking her return to the stage with the band after a lengthy period. The fans are eagerly looking forward to the reunion, though Berman has not confirmed whether this will lead to a longer-term revival of the band.

Below is the schedule for the upcoming tour dates:

TOUR DATES:
2/19 – Porto, Portugal @ Hotel Mouco
2/20 – A Coruña, Spain @ Garufa Club
2/21 – Oviedo, Spain @ Kiuvi Pop Up
2/22 – Tarragona, Spain @ Sala Zero
2/23 – Madrid, Spain @ Lula Club
2/24 – Sevilla, Spain @ Sala X

2/28 – Barcelona, Spain @ Razzmatazz 2
3/01 – Zaragoza, Spain @ Espacio Las Armas

Fans of The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart can anticipate a warm reunion and a chance to relive the memories that the music encapsulates from their formative years.
