The Play That Goes Wrong Extends Run at New World Stages

The wildly popular comedy, The Play That Goes Wrong, has announced an extension, with tickets now available through August 31. The production is currently being staged at New World Stages, located at 340 West 50th Street.

The ensemble cast for The Play That Goes Wrong includes talented performers such as Trevor Braun as Dennis, Ashley N. Hildreth as Annie, Julian Robertson as Trevor, Chris Lanceley as Chris, Adam Petherbridge as Max, Chris French as Jonathan, John Rapson as Robert, and Maggie Weston as Sandra. The production also features understudies Damien Brett, Laura D’Andre, Brandon Haagenson, and Jemma Jane.

Directed by Matt DiCarlo, The Play That Goes Wrong first made its debut at New World Stages – Stage 4 on February 20, 2019. It showcases an impressive set design by Tony Award winner Nigel Hook, with costumes designed by Roberto Surace, lighting by Jeremy Cunningham, and sound by Beth Lake. The Broadway version was helmed by director Mark Bell, featuring lighting by Ric Mountjoy and sound design by Andrew Johnson.

This uproarious play is a collaborative effort by Mischief troupe members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields. It revolves around the mishaps of the ‘Cornley University Drama Society’ as they strive to present a 1920s murder mystery. True to its title, the performance is a comedic catastrophe, with the unqualified yet determined cast facing a series of blunders as they aim for their final bow.

The Broadway run of The Play That Goes Wrong premiered on March 9, 2017, officially opening on April 2 and closing on January 6, 2019, at The Lyceum Theatre. This production was honored with the 2017 Tony Award for Best Set Design and the Theater Fans Choice Award for Best Play, solidifying its status in theatrical history.

Recognized with the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2015 and the WhatsOnStage Award for the same category in 2014, The Play That Goes Wrong has achieved over a decade of performances in London’s West End at the Duchess Theatre. The show represents the exceptional journey of a group of drama school graduates who formed Mischief and built a remarkable collection of theatrical works. From its inception at a London fringe venue, where it drew a meager four paying customers, it has since attracted over four million audience members globally, with performances in over 50 countries across all continents except Antarctica, where producers suspect the reception may be chilly.

Mischief Productions has an exciting line-up of other works, including the upcoming spy adventure The Comedy About Spies, set to premiere in London in May 2025, and the recent Broadway success Peter Pan Goes Wrong, which frequently tours the UK. Other notable productions include Magic Goes Wrong, A Comedy About A Bank Robbery, Mischief Movie Night, and the recently concluded UK Tour and West End sensation Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle. Additionally, their award-winning BBC series, The Goes Wrong Show, is streamable on Broadway HD.

The Off-Broadway production of The Play That Goes Wrong is produced by an accomplished team, including Kevin McCollum, J.J. Abrams, Kenny Wax, and others from various production companies, ensuring its continued success and enjoyment for audiences.
