Chunky Panday Acknowledges Overacting While Filming for The Royals

Chunky Panday is set to appear in The Royals, which is scheduled to premiere on May 9 on Netflix.

Netflix recently unveiled the trailer for its anticipated series ‘The Royals’, featuring a star-studded cast including Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, and Chunky Panday, among others. During the trailer launch, Panday humorously declared himself a ‘true-blue royal’ and a self-professed ‘king of comedy’. Reflecting on his college days, he recounted being playfully referred to as ‘Your Highness’ due to his carefree demeanor. However, he quickly added that it was all in jest, echoing a famous line from his character Aakhri Pasta in the Housefull series, stating, ‘Imma joking!’

At the event, Panday remarked, “I am a true-blue royal, sitting on the wrong side of the bench. I should be there. I am king of comedy. Self-proclaimed. Giving myself the title. In fact, in college, I was called ‘Your Highness’. Because I was always high. Imma joking!” He also revealed a humorous anecdote about his initial encounter with royalty, confessing his uncertainty about the proper way to greet them, whether by shaking hands or bowing in respect.

Panday continued, “I assumed ‘hukum’ was his first name since everyone kept calling him that. I naively asked, ‘Hokum, what’s your surname?’ not realizing ‘hukum’ translates to maharaj or the boss. This confusion led to some amusing moments during my first royal encounter, which I’ve woven into my performance. Initially, I tried to inject a bit of over-the-top acting, but the team skillfully reminded me to tone it down, saying ‘Relax! You’re not in Housefull, you’re in The Royals’.” He expressed his enthusiasm for the filming process and mentioned his hope to return for a second season of The Royals. Panday also conveyed that he was a late addition to the show’s ensemble cast.

The ensemble of The Royals includes notable actors such as Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny.

The series is directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, with writing by Neha Veena Sharma and produced by Pritish Nandy Communications. It was created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy.
