Pedro Pascal Stands with Trans Community at Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” Premiere
Actor Pedro Pascal has once again demonstrated his solidarity with the transgender community. At the UK premiere of Marvel’s Thunderbolts, he was seen wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “Protect the Dolls,” a term of endearment for transgender women within the LGBTQ+ community.
This striking shirt was designed by Conner Ives, an American fashion designer. In an interview with the New York Times, Ives explained that the inspiration for the shirt stemmed from the alarming rise of anti-trans sentiment in the United States, particularly during the current administration’s tenure.
“The reality of the situation compelled me to act,” Ives shared. “Watching the U.S. government’s actions over recent months evoked a sense of helplessness. As someone with many friends in the trans community, and those who model for me, I felt the urgency to speak up.” He elaborated on how the changing societal landscape pushed him to create something impactful.
Importantly, a significant portion of the shirt’s sales proceeds will contribute to Trans Lifeline, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing resources and support for transgender individuals in crisis.
Pascal has been an outspoken ally to the transgender community, especially after his sister, Lux Pascal, came out as transgender in February 2021. Recently, he criticized author J.K. Rowling for her ongoing anti-trans rhetoric and her support of a controversial ruling that denies legal recognition of trans women in the United Kingdom. In response to calls for a boycott of Rowling and her Harry Potter franchise, he remarked on Instagram that her behavior was “heinous” and deserving of disdain.
Pascal is not alone in wearing the “Protect the Dolls” shirt. Celebrities like Troye Sivan have also shown their support, wearing it during a surprise performance at Coachella. Recently, social media personality Addison Rae showcased the shirt in a TikTok video, further amplifying its visibility.
The actor’s commitment has resonated with followers, who praised his initiative on various platforms. His Marvel co-star, Florence Pugh, expressed admiration for Pascal’s bold fashion choice during an interview with MTV UK, exclaiming, “Did you see what he was wearing? That incredible top! I need one! Loved, loved, loved that!”
Pascal’s efforts to advocate for the trans community through both words and fashion continue to inspire others, highlighting the growing importance of solidarity in the face of societal challenges.
