Solo travel remains a popular trend among adventurous individuals looking for unique experiences. A recent study from Kensington Tours, a provider of luxury guided travel, has identified the leading destinations for solo travelers in 2025. This report is based on data gathered from affluent travelers in 2024, as well as two surveys conducted by Opinium Research and Dig Insight.
According to Matt Cammaert, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Kensington, “Solo travelers are increasingly gravitating toward locations rich in cultural heritage and natural beauty while enjoying personalized service.” The survey revealed that 76% of participants are either very or somewhat interested in embarking on international solo trips over the next three years.
India is the No. 1 solo travel destination for 2025
India has emerged as the premier choice for individuals keen on solo adventures. Anit Singh, Kensington’s expert on the Indian subcontinent, noted that “the myriad of experiences—from the lively streets of Jaipur to the serene backwaters of Kerala—guarantees that each traveler discovers something remarkable.” The country boasts one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World: the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, renowned for its stunning architecture and historical significance. The report highlights that India offers a profound historical and cultural richness that many travelers seek throughout their lives.

1. India
2. Italy
3. Japan
4. Egypt
5. Thailand
6. Australia
7. Spain
8. Iceland
9. France
10. New Zealand
Italy ranks second among solo travel destinations. As a long-time favorite for travelers, exploring Italy alone often symbolizes the pursuit of a personal dream. The report suggests that solo travelers aim to experience venues and activities that deviate from mainstream tourism. This aligns with findings from recent trend reports by Expedia and Booking.com, indicating that travelers are increasingly attracted to less frequented locales rather than renowned tourist hotspots. About 63% indicated they would likely choose an off-the-beaten-path destination on their next journey, as noted in Expedia’s “Unpack 25” travel trend report.
Italy, home to iconic landmarks such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, and the Duomo di Milano, continues to be a destination of choice for those traveling solo, seeking distinct and fulfilling experiences.
