The Voice Season 27 progressed with the third round of Blind Auditions, showcasing a fresh set of talent. As the season unfolds, two blocking strategies and two “Coach Replay” features had already been utilized. Notably, John Legend employed his block against Adam Levine in the premiere episode, while reigning champion Michael Bublé effectively blocked first-time coach Kelsea Ballerini during the second episode. Both Michael and Kelsea have also made strategic use of their “Coach Replay” options to reevaluate previous choices. The episodes continue to be hosted by Carson Daly, who guides the contestants and coaches throughout their journey.
In this episode, Adam successfully navigated the competition landscape, reminiscent of his strong performances in earlier seasons. He Knew how to leverage the tools available in this era of the show, acquiring three new team members, with two of those selections directly benefiting from his replay and blocking capabilities.
“I thought you came back to get me” — Tinika Wyatt to Adam Levine
Tinika Wyatt, a marriage and family therapist, uses her platform to inspire her children by demonstrating that it’s never too late to pursue one’s dreams. At 50, Tinika has performed as a background vocalist globally but has shifted her focus to her family and community. With her children now grown, she believes her most fulfilling days in music are just beginning.
Initially, it appeared that Tinika’s audition would not yield the desired outcome, as none of the coaches turned for her rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry.” Feedback from the coaches highlighted some inaccuracies in her performance, with suggestions to choose a song that would showcase her vocal range more effectively. However, Adam later expressed regret for not turning initially and decided to use his replay option after hearing her share a personal anecdote related to her earlier casting call. He remarked on the unique quality of her voice and her engaging persona, compelling him to give her another shot.
“I tried to block you last minute… it didn’t work” — Kelsea Ballerini to Adam Levine
In a twist of fate, Conor James, a Broadway vocalist, sparked excitement when his stirring performance of “I Say a Little Prayer” turned all four coaches’ chairs. Although Adam was the third coach to turn and Kelsea tried to block him at the last moment, she was unable to prevent Conor from choosing Adam as his mentor. Adam, convinced of Conor’s talent, likened him to former contestants who embodied a “limitless potential,” suggesting he could be Adam’s next champion.
Later in the episode, Adam turned the tables on Kelsea by utilizing his block during Tyler Kae’s captivating performance of Cyndi Lauper’s classic “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Adam revealed that he anticipated Kelsea’s interest in Tyler and credited her vocal prowess. Despite Kelsea’s connection to Tyler due to her Nashville roots, John reminded her of her opportunity to use her steal option in future rounds.
The episode’s tension escalated when Kelsea retaliated with a block against Adam during BD.ii‘s performance of “Adorn.” However, as it was a four-chair turn, BD.ii ultimately opted to join John’s team, drawn by his experience collaborating with well-known artists.
By the conclusion of Episode 3, a total of nine artists joined the competition through coaches’ selections. Adam welcomed three new members to his team, while John claimed BD.ii and Jacquelyn George and Michael enlisted Divighn and Barry Jean Fontenot. Kelsea rounded out the episode by securing talents Page Mackenzie and Jessica Manalo.
The current team lineups are as follows:
