Identification of Solider in Deadly Black Hawk Collision
The U.S. Army has revealed the identity of the third soldier involved in the tragic midair collision between a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet near Reagan National Airport. Captain Rebecca M. Lobach, hailing from Durham, North Carolina, was serving as an aviation officer and had accumulated approximately 500 hours of flight time in Black Hawk helicopters since beginning her service in July 2019.
Initially, Lobach’s family requested that her name not be released, citing concerns over unfounded allegations suggesting that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives may have influenced the circumstances surrounding the accident.
In addition to Captain Lobach, the other members of the helicopter crew include Ryan O’Hara, serving as the crew chief, and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Eaves, who also piloted the aircraft. The incident occurred during a training mission when the Black Hawk collided with the airline jet as it was landing at Reagan National Airport after arriving from Wichita, Kansas. The collision resulted in the tragic loss of all 64 passengers and crew members on the regional jet, as well as the three soldiers on the helicopter.
The circumstances leading to the crash are currently under thorough investigation, as authorities seek to understand the factors that contributed to this catastrophic event.
