Discover the Top “Hidden Gem” Campground in America
The Cove Resort & Pub in Inverness, Florida, has been named the best “hidden gem” campground in the United States, according to a recent study by Campspot, a leading campground booking platform. Once operating as a fish camp, this unique destination provides convenient access to Lake Henderson and features its own waterfront pub. Visitors can choose from RV sites or cozy cabins for their stay.
For those seeking tranquility in nature, discovering a “hidden gem” campground is a rewarding experience.
Campspot embarked on a mission to identify the top underrated campgrounds as part of its Best Campgrounds in North America list. The selection process involved analyzing over three million data points, taking into account guest ratings, reservation histories, and various park features.
Among the lesser-known but exceptional campsites, The Cove Resort & Pub stood out and claimed the top position. This campground is one of the rare facilities to include a cherished waterfront bar, and it is unique in that it can be accessed by boat. Its history as a fish camp, a place where visitors could fish, relax, and prepare their meals, adds to its charm.
The campground features ten beautifully landscaped RV sites nestled under a canopy of trees, each spacious and equipped with necessary amenities including electric and water hookups, septic services, and WiFi. For those without an RV, The Cove offers alternative lodging options, including 400-square-foot cabins and a larger home that can accommodate up to 11 guests, complete with a shaded front porch.
Additionally, the RV sites provide direct access to the waters of Lake Henderson, with complimentary kayaks available for guests. For outdoor enthusiasts, the 47-mile-long Withlacoochee Bike Trail, one of Florida’s longest paved rail-trails, is located within three miles of The Cove. The vibrant downtown area of Inverness is also conveniently just a six-minute drive away.
“The Campspot Awards celebrate parks that provide outstanding guest experiences and capture the essence of contemporary camping,” remarked Erin Stender, CMO of Campspot. “This year’s winners showcase the rich diversity of camping options in North America, ranging from serene getaways for disconnection to exciting family-oriented destinations. We are excited to present parks that are truly remarkable.”
Following The Cove on the list of standout “hidden gem” campgrounds are Byrd’s Branch Campground in Elkin, North Carolina; Doe River Landing in Roan Mountain, Tennessee; Foxfire of Murphy RV Park in Murphy, North Carolina; and Stone House Lodge in Los Ojos, New Mexico.
