This Tangy Batch Cocktail Is the Perfect Negroni Remix for Your End-of-Year Fun Times
Why It Works
The unique blend of grapefruit, lime, and orange juice skillfully balances the bitterness of Aperol and the punch of gin, introducing revitalizing layers of acidity. By chilling the spirits and juices with ice prior to incorporating the sparkling wine, the high alcohol content is slightly mellowed, and it ensures the bubbles maintain their effervescence until it’s time to serve.
This delightful, zesty, and spirited Negroni-inspired punch was a crowd favorite at our third Annual Serious Eats Cookie Swap, where guests quickly clamored for a second round. For those who prefer a lighter, more bubbly drink, sparkling water or an extra bottle of sparkling wine can be added. However, the original bittersweet profile served over ice was the preferred choice for us. While the liquor can be prepared ahead of time, it is crucial to juice the citrus fresh on the day of the gathering to preserve its vibrant flavor.

Ingredients:
- 5 cups (1.2L) gin
- 3 cups (710ml) Aperol
- 1 cup (240ml) Yellow Chartreuse
- 1 3/4 cups (415ml) freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 1/2 cups (591ml) freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
- 3/4 cup (175ml) freshly squeezed orange juice
- 10 dashes orange bitters (optional)
- Ice
- One 750ml bottle sparkling wine, chilled
- 2 oranges, sliced into thin rounds
To prepare, combine gin, Aperol, Chartreuse, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and orange juice in a large punch bowl or beverage dispenser. If using, add the bitters and mix well. Introduce several cups of ice, stir, and allow the mixture to chill for about 15 minutes to facilitate slight dilution. Once ready, top it off with the sparkling wine, stir gently, and finish with the orange slices as garnish. Serve the punch over additional ice.
