Five individuals, including two firefighters and three residents, sustained injuries during a four-alarm fire that erupted at an apartment complex in the Bronx, New York, on Sunday, April 20.
According to the New York Fire Department (FDNY), approximately 180 fire and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene at 345 Cypress Avenue shortly after 2:20 PM.
The FDNY confirmed that their teams arrived at the location within three minutes and 45 seconds after the emergency call.
Chief of Operations Kevin Woods detailed the incident, stating, “The structure is a six-story, non-fireproof multiple dwelling with seven apartments on each floor. Upon arrival, we encountered significant fire activity in an apartment on the sixth floor, which had extended to the cockloft space.”
As of Sunday evening, fire marshals from the FDNY were actively investigating the cause of the fire.
