Tragic Storm-Related Incident Claims Three Lives in Michigan
Kalamazoo, Mich. — A family in Michigan suffered a devastating loss when a tree fell on their vehicle during severe storms that swept through the region. Authorities have reported that three family members lost their lives due to this tragic accident, which occurred as powerful storms affected various parts of the Midwest and South.
In addition to the fatalities, three other individuals were hospitalized, with one reported to be in critical condition, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office. The incident took place in Climax Township, located approximately 130 miles west of Detroit, and is currently under investigation.
At the time of the accident, Kalamazoo County was under a severe thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service, as thunderstorms were prevalent across southern Michigan.
The impact of the storms extended beyond Michigan, with over 400,000 power outages reported across multiple states, including Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, as per data from Poweroutage.us. Various utility companies, such as DTE Energy in Michigan, are mobilizing crews to restore electricity to affected areas.
In neighboring Valparaiso, Indiana, a serious incident involving a tractor trailer occurred due to severe crosswinds, resulting in the fatality of the driver, identified as 34-year-old Jagbir Singh from Ontario, Canada. The accident happened on the property of Pratt Industries, where Singh was found deceased outside the vehicle.
Additionally, in Elkhart, Indiana, a warehouse was reportedly destroyed by the storms, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries from that incident, according to reports from WSBT-TV.
In Tennessee, storms caused significant damage in counties including Maury and Humphreys. Reports from the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office indicate that extensive damage occurred throughout the area, with one home losing its roof. Residents trapped inside were able to escape without injury, as noted by WSMV-TV.
Looking ahead, the Storm Prediction Center has warned that clusters of thunderstorms, which may bring strong winds and even a few tornadoes, are anticipated to move across much of the Southeast on Monday, highlighting the continuing threat posed by severe weather in the region.
