Police Crackdown on Drug Activity and Elder Abuse in Redding

In Redding, law enforcement officials took action on Thursday, arresting seven individuals at a residence on Henderson Road. This development followed numerous community complaints regarding illegal drug activities, unsafe fire conditions, and the welfare of numerous dogs on the premises.

Executing a search warrant, police discovered a property rife with unpermitted structural changes, precarious living situations, instances of trespassing, and a substantial amount of drug-related paraphernalia. The site is located near the Nur Pon Open Space, which has reportedly raised concerns within the neighborhood.

The property belongs to a 75-year-old woman designated as a victim, for whom police are withholding identification due to concerns regarding elder abuse. Investigators revealed that three men—Paul Cairns, 45; Nai Saechao, 54; and Michael Scott, 62—had allegedly exploited her financially while residing in her home for several years.

Authorities have charged Cairns, Saechao, and Scott with offenses related to injuring an elder or dependent adult as well as burglary. They are currently being held at the Shasta County Jail with bail set at $25,000 each.

As police approached the location, four additional individuals attempted to flee but were apprehended and subsequently arrested for drug-related crimes. Those identified include Justin Palimino, 41; Kelly Schofield, 20; Daniel Waldrop, 47; and Jason Rupe, 44. They have also been booked into the Shasta County Jail.

The investigation extends to fire safety concerns, with Redding arson investigators tackling hazards linked to the deteriorating condition of the structures and accumulated debris. Additionally, Redding Code Enforcement officials are addressing the unsanitary environment along with unauthorized construction activities.

In a related effort, Redding Animal Control intervened by removing over 15 neglected dogs from the property, highlighting further issues of animal welfare amidst the larger investigation.
