Tiger Woods Partners with Augusta National to Create New Golf Course and Learning Facility
Tiger Woods is set to contribute to the golfing landscape of Augusta, Georgia, by designing a new nine-hole short course in partnership with Augusta National Golf Club. This initiative forms part of the renovation of the Augusta Municipal Golf Course, affectionately referred to as “The Patch,” which is located just four miles from the iconic Masters venue.
The upcoming short course will complement the 18-hole Augusta Municipal Golf Course, currently undergoing extensive renovations led by Tom Fazio and Beau Welling. This revitalized facility is anticipated to reopen in time for the next Masters tournament, scheduled for next April.
Although Woods was unable to attend the announcement at Augusta National due to ongoing recovery from surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon, he did join via video link to express his enthusiasm for the project.
“Collaborating with Augusta National Golf Club to serve its surrounding community is genuinely meaningful,” Woods noted. “My long-standing passion for education and golf parallels my relationship with Augusta National and the city itself.” He emphasized the project’s potential to empower youth by providing access to affordable golf and valuable educational opportunities.
In addition to the short course, Woods’ TGR Foundation will establish a TGR Learning Lab in Augusta, aimed at offering STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education for local youth. This initiative seeks to open pathways for learning and personal development in fields that are increasingly crucial in today’s world.
Fred Ridley, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, remarked that the collaboration with Woods is a significant opportunity for the community. He stated, “These announcements are an important milestone for Augusta and enhance the connection we have with one of our greatest Masters champions, Tiger Woods. We appreciate the partnership with the TGR Foundation and are committed to investing in the Augusta community.” Ridley highlighted the shared vision of expanding access to quality educational programming and affordable golf.
As part of their goals, the partners aim to create an inviting atmosphere at The Patch, providing not only an affordable golfing experience but also nurturing a love for the game and creating career pathways within the golf industry.
