Tillotama Shome Highlights Risks of Identity Theft as Fraudster Exploits Her Name
Renowned actress Tillotama Shome, celebrated for her impactful roles in productions such as Angrezi Medium, Lust Stories 2, Delhi Crime, The Night Manager, and Paatal Lok, has recently fallen victim to an online impersonation scheme. On April 21, 2025, Shome took to her Instagram account to inform her followers about a fraudster who was misrepresenting her identity to solicit favors.
In her message, the actress disclosed that an unknown person was utilizing a still from her Bengali film Shadowbox (Baksho Bondi) as their profile picture on WhatsApp. This impersonator had been contacting various individuals, claiming to be Shome and requesting assistance under misleading circumstances. She made it clear that the phone number being used did not belong to her and urged her followers to exercise caution and refrain from interacting with the impersonator. Shome also stated that she had not solicited any favors from anyone and cautioned her audience against responding to such inquiries.
Shome posted, “This is not my number. The image being used as the display picture is from our film @bakshobondifilm. It has since been removed. To whoever you may be, please don’t use my name to ask people I know for things. STOP.”
In an effort to substantiate her claims, the actress provided screenshots of the fraudulent phone number as well as excerpts from conversations where the impersonator attempted to exploit her name for assistance.
Shome’s warning serves as a reminder of the growing issue of identity theft and online scams, which continue to pose significant risks to public figures and their followers alike.
