In an entertaining twist, Timothée Chalamet recently made an appearance at a look-alike contest held in New York’s Washington Square Park, where he awarded a $50 prize to the winner. Now, he is collaborating once again with some of those participants for his promotional activities related to the upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live.
In a playful video for the show, Chalamet expresses, “I’ve never done this before,” highlighting the challenge of being both the host and musical guest in a single week. He emphasizes his desire to concentrate on his musical performance, prompting him to recruit the look-alikes to handle the hosting responsibilities.
The promo features a series of clips showcasing Chalamet’s doppelgängers engaging in various tasks around Studio 8H, including meetings with writers and preparing the monologue. Additionally, they are seen interacting with Mikey Day>, who comically boasts about his experience hosting Is It Cake?
As the real Chalamet reassures the audience, “All things considered, it should be a great show,” he suddenly receives a reminder about an appearance on The Tonight Show. The scene cuts to one of his impersonators stepping onto the show in a flamboyant outfit, prompting an amused but skeptical reaction from Jimmy Fallon.
“He’s good. He’s really good. Yeah, you guys can learn from him,” Chalamet remarks, casually sipping coffee next to his Wonka look-alike and others mimicking his style, which adds to the humor of the situation.
In addition to his SNL appearance, Chalamet’s performance in James Mangold‘s upcoming film, A Complete Unknown, has led to speculation regarding a nomination for Best Actor at the Oscars. His portrayal of revered musician Bob Dylan has already earned him accolades from various major award ceremonies, including the BAFTAs and Golden Globes. If nominated, this would be his second Oscar consideration following his 2017 nod for Call Me by Your Name.
Chalamet is part of a rare group of non-traditional musicians who have appeared as both hosts and musical guests on SNL, a list that includes notable figures like Lily Tomlin and Deion Sanders. Interestingly, Sanders’ 1995 hosting stint saw him both present and perform tracks from his rap album, Prime Time.
This season of Saturday Night Live, marking its 50th iteration, features an impressive lineup of hosts such as Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Martin Short, Bill Burr, Ariana Grande, and more.
Fans can catch Chalamet’s episode this Saturday on NBC, with a streaming option available on Peacock.
