Timothée Chalamet to Receive Arlington Artist of the Year Award at SBIFF

Timothée Chalamet continues to solidify his status as one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed young actors. The 28-year-old will be honored with the Arlington Artist of the Year Award at the 2025 Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). This announcement follows closely on the heels of Chalamet being recognized along with his “A Complete Unknown” director, James Mangold, as Visionary Tribute awardees at the upcoming Gotham Awards.

Chalamet has previously gained recognition, including the Breakthrough Actor Award at various honors such as the Gothams and the Hollywood Film Awards for his standout performance in “Call Me by Your Name” (2017).

The actor will receive the Arlington Artist of the Year Award during a special tribute and career retrospective scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11. The 40th edition of SBIFF will showcase Chalamet’s roles in three significant films: “A Complete Unknown,” where he embodies music icon Bob Dylan; “Dune: Part Two,” a highly anticipated sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve; and “Wonka,” a whimsical musical fantasy comedy released in 2023.

Festival executive director Roger Durling expressed his admiration for Chalamet, particularly noting the actor’s captivating transformation in “A Complete Unknown.” Durling stated, “I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan, and I was blown away by Chalamet’s transformation… His performance is galvanizing and electrifying, especially coming off the heels of the major box office triumph earlier this year with ‘Dune: Part Two.’ Truly, this is the age of Chalamet.”

To date, Chalamet has received one Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his work in “Call Me by Your Name,” although he lost to Gary Oldman for “Darkest Hour.” Current predictions from Gold Derby suggest he may receive another Oscar nod for his portrayal in “A Complete Unknown.” He has already participated in five films nominated for Best Picture, including “Lady Bird” (2017), “Little Women” (2019), “Dune: Part One” (2021), and “Don’t Look Up” (2021).

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival will take place from February 4 to February 15, featuring a variety of screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and tributes to notable figures in film. The events will be hosted at SBIFF’s Riviera Theatre, its new Film Center, and the historic Arlington Theatre.

While the official review embargo for “A Complete Unknown” will be lifted on December 10, early reactions to the film have been emerging online. The movie is set to open in theaters on December 25.
