2. Respond Promptly to Urges to Urinate

Ignoring the urge to urinate can lead to complications. When urine is retained in the bladder for prolonged periods, it creates an environment conducive to bacterial growth, increasing infection risk. “Emptying the bladder completely helps flush out any bacteria that may have been introduced into the lower urinary tract,” explains Dr. David Kaufman, director at Central Park Urology.

Using scented soaps, powders, and menstrual products can irritate the urethra, making it more susceptible to infections.
